The project will be executed by Darlingtek Company Limited and is expected to be completed within 36 months. Alenbilla thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the initiative and commended traditional authorities for providing land for the site. He said the assembly is preparing to relocate traders to a temporary market to allow construction to begin.
Atwima Nwabiagya North DCE Mba Zechariah Alenbilla has cut sod for construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market at Asuofua, a flagship project under the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs aimed at building modern markets in every district and expanding local economies through round-the-clock business.
Market to feature clinic, daycare, bank, and security posts
Project Manager Daniel Yeboah of Eco-Planners and Engineering Consult said the market will include lockable shops and stalls, a clinic, daycare center, women’s bank, police and fire posts, restaurants, pharmacies, and other ancillary facilities. He added that the contractor has been adequately resourced by government and work should start within two weeks.
Traditional leaders and traders react
Asuofua Queenmother Nana Ahenkan Baanie expressed appreciation to the President for fulfilling his promise. She said trader interest is already high even before construction begins and expects strong returns for government once the market opens. She urged the contractor to hire local carpenters, masons, and laborers and warned that substandard work by community members would not be tolerated.
Traders welcomed the project but appealed for timely completion and a fair allocation of stalls once construction ends.
The 24-Hour Economy Market initiative is designed to boost job creation and extend trading hours in district capitals across Ghana.
