AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has taken a major step toward local economic development by transitioning 22 women from Obuasi Sanso from vocational apprentices into independent business owners.
The empowerment initiative forms part of the mining company’s broader host-community strategy, aimed at driving sustainable livelihoods, reducing financial dependency, and fostering self-reliance among women and youth across its operational areas.
Speaking at the graduation and transition ceremony, Daniel Arthur Bentum, Economic Development Superintendent at AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, highlighted the long-term vision behind the training. He urged the new entrepreneurs to leverage their newly acquired practical skills to build resilient enterprises.
”Apply what you have learned to build sustainable businesses and improve your livelihoods,” Bentum advised, emphasizing that long-term commercial success will require continuous commitment, hard work, and business discipline.
Beneficiaries of the program noted that the training extends beyond individual financial gain, giving them the tools to support their families and uplift the broader Obuasi Sanso economy. Expressing their gratitude, several graduates called on AngloGold Ashanti to scale the initiative to reach more women and young adults in neighboring communities.
The mine’s management reaffirmed its commitment to launching similar capacity-building projects as part of its ongoing social investment framework in the Ashanti Region.
