The Ghana Oil Palm Development Company, GOPDC, has intensified its High-Impact Community Development Programme across communities within its operational areas, including Kwae, Otumi, Jamestown, Okumaning, Atobriso, Kusi and Takorase.
The company, which has traditionally supported communities in the areas of health and education, has now expanded its interventions to include sporting activities as part of efforts to identify and develop young talents.
The initiative forms part of GOPDC’s broader commitment to promoting sustainable community development within its plantation zones.
The company’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Christopher Asiedu, said the decision to include sports was informed by the abundance of sporting talents within the region who require the necessary support and opportunities to develop their potential.
He explained that the company is determined to identify promising young talents and provide them with opportunities that could help them progress to higher levels of competition.
The Sports Coordinator at the Kwaebibrem Municipal Education Directorate, Mr. Precious Bokorvia, commended GOPDC for investing in the sporting talents of young people within the municipality.
According to him, many young people possess considerable sporting abilities but are unable to develop them due to inadequate sponsorship and opportunities.
He said the new initiative could help discover hidden talents and provide them with the platform needed to compete at higher levels, including the national and international stages.
