A 19-year-old man, Ahmed Mustapha, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for robbery and causing harm after attacking a man near Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command said the convict was arrested on 21st July 2026 by the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team following a report that a 25-year-old man had been attacked and robbed of his mobile phone near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.
According to the police, the suspect attempted to flee and hide in an uncompleted building when officers arrived at the scene. He was pursued and arrested. A mobile phone belonging to the victim and a cutlass believed to have been used in the attack were retrieved from him.
The victim sustained cutlass wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand. He was rushed to KNUST Hospital for treatment and was later reported to be in stable condition after regaining consciousness.
Ahmed Mustapha was arraigned on 27th July 2026 before the Asokwa Circuit Court Two, presided over by Her Honour Vida Achiaa Yeboah. He pleaded guilty to both counts of Robbery and Causing Harm and was remanded into police custody pending sentencing.
On 10th August 2026, the court convicted him and handed down a 15-year jail term with hard labour.
The Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit said the convict has since been transferred to Kumasi Central Prisons to begin his sentence.
The Command urged the public to continue providing information to aid in the fight against crime in the region.
