A group of aggrieved National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth members in the Gomoa East Constituency have called on party leaders to reward their sacrifices during the 2024 general elections with employment opportunities, warning that they may disrupt upcoming branch elections if their concerns are ignored.
The youth, who served as election security personnel for the party during the campaign and election period, said they played a crucial role in safeguarding party activities, polling stations, and campaign events throughout the constituency.
Speaking to Nana Ansah, the group alleged that ten security recruitment slots are currently available within the constituency.
They are therefore appealing to the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East and the Central Regional Minister, Regional Party Chairman, DCE to allocate the positions to members who actively served the party during the elections.
According to them, many of the youth dedicated their time, energy, and resources to support the party’s victory, often at personal cost.
However, they claim that since the NDC assumed office, they have not received any employment opportunities or recognition for their efforts.
The group expressed disappointment over what they described as the neglect of grassroots members who worked tirelessly for the party’s success.
They argued that priority should be given to committed party activists whenever opportunities become available.
“We stood with the party throughout the campaign and election period. We sacrificed our time and risked our safety to protect the party’s interest. We believe we deserve consideration when such opportunities arise,” one of the youth stated.
The aggrieved members further warned that failure by party executives to address their concerns could affect preparations towards the party’s upcoming branch elections.
They indicated that they may mobilize their members to boycott or disrupt the electoral process if their demands are not given serious attention.
They have therefore appealed to the constituency, regional, and national leadership of the party to intervene and ensure a fair and transparent distribution of the available security recruitment slots.
