The Eastern South Regional Police Command has confirmed the shooting incident that occurred at Kyebi Zongo in the Eastern Region and says investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Speaking on the matter, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP David Fianko Okyere, confirmed that police officers have visited the scene and have commenced investigations. He assured the public that the Police Service is committed to uncovering the facts surrounding the incident.
DSP Fianko Okyere also urged residents, particularly the youth, to refrain from interfering with security personnel while they are carrying out lawful duties, stressing that such actions could lead to avoidable confrontations.
He further advised members of the public who are uncertain about any security operation to seek clarification through the Ghana Police Service emergency numbers 18555 or 191, instead of obstructing officers in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, has condemned the shooting of a young man during the confrontation involving a joint Military and Police team and some youth at Kyebi Zongo.
In a statement, Dr. Agyemang described the incident as unfortunate and extended his best wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured victims. He appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigators while due process takes its course.

The MP further called on the security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident and ensure justice is served.
The incident reportedly occurred during an anti-illegal mining operation in the area. Initial reports indicate that one young man sustained a gunshot wound. However, eyewitnesses claimed the confrontation began after security personnel attempted to load confiscated soil onto tipper trucks, resulting in the shooting of Ibrahim, popularly known as “Argo,” and another man identified as Ametepe Davis, 35.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command says investigations remain ongoing, and the exact circumstances leading to the shooting will be determined upon the conclusion of the inquiry.
