The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Right Reverend Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has added his voice to the growing concern about indiscipline among schoolchildren in the country.
He noted that these days, activities that border on criminality are taking place in our schools.
According to Dr. Nana Opare Kwakye, Children nowadays go to school with guns instead of books, and others also engage in hard drugs, and as a country, we must treat this as a National Security threat and stop it early before it escalates.
The Moderator said this during the 18th Congregation of Kibi Presbyterian College of Education, where 578 students were successfully graduated from the institution on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Kyebi, Eastern Region.
Out of this number, 135 students grabbed 1st class positions, 308 maintained the 2nd class Upper position, 115 secured the 2nd class Lower position, and 20 placed in the 3rd class position.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Kwakye then advised the newly graduated teachers who are yet to be posted to their various stations to be courageous to enforce discipline among schoolchildren and change their lifestyle to become productive to the development of Ghana in the future.
The Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in charge of Management Services, Professor (Mrs.) Smile Gavua Dzisi, on her part, indicated that the Service is committed to supporting newly graduated teachers with resources, professional development opportunities, and systemic reforms that would enable them to excel in their calling.
“We are committed to working tirelessly so that when you complete your national service, you can swiftly join the prestigious GES,” she added.
Prof. Smile Dzisi further said they are again working on improving teacher trainees, enhancing educational infrastructure, and developing policies that support effective teaching and learning.
The outgoing Principal of the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education, Rev. Dr. Charles Fosu-Ayarkwah, under whose tenure for the past 9 years in office, the College has seen numerous infrastructure improvements.
He attributed his success to the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council, the students, teaching and non-teaching staff, and the Government of Ghana, who worked assiduously with him to make this history.
Dr. Fosu-Ayarkwah hinted that currently, Kibi Presbyterian College of Education has the infrastructure to become a fully-fledged University and is looking forward to seeing the College being elevated to that standard in some years to come.
