Nkwanta South Unrest: ‘Learners Too Scared to Go to School’

The Nkwanta South conflict has been ongoing for quite some time now, causing a lot of disruptions in the area and the Oti Region as a whole.

One of the major consequences of the conflict is the fear that has been instilled in learners, making them hesitant to attend school.

This is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed, as education is the key to a better future.

In an interview with the principal of Nkwanta Community Vocational Training Institute, Bernard Portakey, he expressed his concern over the effects of the conflict on the learners in the area.

He revealed that many students who come from far distances to attend the school are now afraid to do so, due to the ongoing conflict.

This has resulted in a significant decrease in the number of students attending the school, causing a major setback in their education.

He said, the Nkwanta Community Vocational Training Institute plays a vital role in providing technical and vocational education to students in the area.

Mr. Portakey emphasized the importance of this type of education, stating that it equips students with practical skills that will prepare them for a better future.

According to him, these skills not only make learners employable but also give them the opportunity to be self-sufficient and contribute to the development of their community.

Mr. Portakey stated that, despite the ongoing conflict, the Nkwanta Community Vocational Training Institute remains committed to its mission of empowering students with valuable skills.

He said, the first batch of learners who have completed their training are now equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills, and they are currently receiving their certificates.

He again said, the students are now ready to join the workforce and make a positive impact in their community.

Nr. Portakey added that, as the conflict in Nkwanta South continues, it is crucial to ensure that the education of learners is not further disrupted.

The Nkwanta Community Vocational Training Institute is a beacon of hope for these students, offering them the chance to acquire practical skills that will enable them to build a better future for themselves and their families.

He said, it is imperative that measures are put in place to ensure the safety and security of these students, so they can continue their education without fear.

Bernard Portakey concluded that, the Nkwanta South conflict has had a significant impact on the learners in the area, making them scared to come to school.

And it is essential for all stakeholders to come together and find a lasting solution to the conflict, so these students can have uninterrupted access to education.

He said, the Nkwanta Community Vocational Training Institute is dedicated to providing quality technical and vocational education to students, and it is imperative that their efforts are supported and protected.
