Traditional leaders and residents of Nankese in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region have expressed concern over what they describe as years of inadequate government development in the community.
In response, they have launched the Nankese Akwantukese Festival, an initiative aimed at mobilising resources to undertake key development projects, including the construction of a school block, a health facility, the renovation of the police station, and other community infrastructure.
The Chief of Nankese, Barima Annor Marfo II, urged residents to unite and take responsibility for the development of their community.
He stressed that the future of Nankese should not depend solely on politicians, noting that while governments may change, the community will always remain. He encouraged all citizens to embrace the Akwantukese Festival as a platform to promote Nankese and attract investors for its development.
Meanwhile, the Suhum Constituency NDC Chairman, Mr. Richard Afasi Dzifa, who chaired the programme, appealed to the government and other stakeholders to support the development of Nankese.
He identified the urgent need for a modern health facility, a police station, a market square, a senior high school, and other essential infrastructure. He added that while government support is important, community members must also work together to achieve the development they desire.
