The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has served notice of a nationwide demonstration set for Thursday, August 6, 2026, to “defend democracy, the Constitution, and the rule of law.”
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, said the protest will be held in collaboration with other political parties, civil society organisations, professional bodies, student movements, youth groups, and “all well-meaning citizens.”
“We shall embark on a massive demonstration to defend our democracy,” Nana Boakye declared. “The demonstration will start here in Accra, and we’ll be going to other regions as well.”
The NPP is demanding accountability on cases involving persons affiliated with the governing party that have been “discontinued, withdrawn, or otherwise terminated since January 2025.” The party called on the Judicial Council and the leadership of the judiciary to “take urgent steps to restore public confidence in the administration of justice.”
Nana Boakye also made a direct appeal to the Chief Justice to ensure fairness in all cases. “The Chief Justice must ensure there is fair justice in all the cases so that no one will feel bad. Justice must be equal,” he said.
