Atiwa East NPP Blames 2024 Defeat on Breakaway Members, Pledges Unity for 2028

The New Patriotic Party’s poor showing in the 2024 elections was largely caused by the exit of key members who broke away to contest as an independent candidate, according to Albert Nuamah, Atiwa East Constituency Chairman seeking re-election.

Speaking after a constituency vetting exercise, Mr. Nuamah said internal misunderstandings before the polls led some influential party actors to leave and form their own political movement.

“The misunderstanding among the key actors of the party before the 2024 elections led some to break away and form their own political party and contested the election as an Independent Presidential Candidate. A situation I describe as very devastating,” he stated.

He has appealed to the national leadership to put measures in place to prevent a repeat. Mr. Nuamah also promised to reconcile aggrieved members if retained.

“If I am given the nod by our gallant delegates to continue serving the party as Chairman, I will bring everybody on board, especially the peeved ones, and find solutions to their bitterness to enable them to get involved in the 2028 election campaign to win power for the NPP,” he said.

He urged delegates to consider reforms introduced during his first term and retain him to continue the work.

Aspirants also centered their campaign on the youth. *Andrews Agyapong*, who is seeking the Youth Organizer position, said he will roll out programs to bring more young people into the party in Atiwa East.

“NPP is the only political party in Ghana that places the welfare of the Ghanaian youth first before anything else as compared to NDC,” he said, adding that a *Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia* presidency in 2028 would create more jobs for the youth.

Former Youth Organizer *Benjamin Gamali Marvin* thanked executives for his elevation without contest and pledged to work with all aspiring executives to help the NPP and Dr. Bawumia win in 2028.

Anthony Osei Adjei, Eastern Regional NPP Secretary and Chairman of the Atiwa East vetting committee, advised aspirants to avoid insults and profane language.

“In doing so, after the election, they can come back and work together for the party to achieve its aim of winning the 2028 election,” he said.

The vetting covered all constituency aspirants seeking to lead the party for the next four years ahead of the 2028 elections.
