Klo Agogo Assembly Member Expresses Confidence in Govt Plan to Rebuild Market and Roads

Assembly Member for Klo Agogo in the Yilo Krobo Municipality, Hon. Harold Kofi Kumah, says he is confident the government will address the community’s long-standing challenges with its dilapidated market and road network.

Speaking with the media Hon. Kumah described the Klo Agogo Market as one of Ghana’s largest and a key food hub that supplies major towns and cities including Koforidua, Accra, Tema, and Ashaiman.

He noted that the market was constructed in 1954 when the community was small, but has not seen any major rehabilitation since. Years of population growth and expansion have now overwhelmed the facility, leaving traders struggling with inadequate space and poor infrastructure.

The assembly member said residents had high hopes for a proposed 24-hour market project, but it was later allocated to another community.

However, he added that fresh assurances have come from the Member of Parliament, Municipal Chief Executive, and the Eastern Regional Minister.

According to him, a stakeholder meeting has already been held in the regional minister’s office and consultants have visited Klo Agogo to begin preparations for a new, standard market.

On road infrastructure, Hon. Kumah said the network serving the area is in a poor state despite being the shortest route for commuters traveling from the Volta Region to Kumasi and the Northern Region. He revealed that government plans to rehabilitate the road are at an advanced stage.

The assembly member also appealed to government, well-meaning individuals, civil society organizations, and NGOs for support to complete an abandoned theatre building at the community’s only polyclinic. The facility was initiated by the MP two years ago but remains incomplete.

He warned that the poor road condition, coupled with a broken-down ambulance, has sometimes led to maternal deaths. “It takes the hard way to refer pregnant women to the next facility to deliver,” he said, calling for urgent repairs to the road and replacement of the ambulance.

Some traders at the market re-echoed the concerns and called for swift government action to save their businesses and improve safety for residents.
