NDC Renames Headquarters After J. J. Rawlings

The National Democratic Congress has renamed its national headquarters in honour of founder Jerry John Rawlings and unveiled a bust of the late former President.

The ceremony took place on Monday, June 22, 2026, as part of events marking what would have been Rawlings’ 79th birthday.

Held under the theme “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy,” the event celebrated the former President’s life, leadership, and impact on Ghana’s democratic journey.

Activities began with the official renaming of the NDC’s headquarters after Rawlings, followed by the unveiling of his bust at the premises. The gesture is meant to preserve the memory of the man credited with founding the party and shaping Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

Senior party officials, supporters, and dignitaries attended the ceremony, which highlighted Rawlings’ influence on Ghana’s democracy and his enduring ideals within the NDC.

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to address the gathering alongside other party leaders, as part of tributes to the former military leader turned democrat.

Rawlings passed away in November 2020. He first led Ghana as a military ruler, then oversaw the transition to constitutional rule and served as President from 1993 to 2001.

The renaming and bust unveiling reflect the NDC’s commitment to honouring its founder and reaffirming the values he championed.
