The increasing number of orphans in the Akyem Oda enclave has prompted the chiefs, social welfare department heads, among other concerned people to advocate for the establishment of an orphanage home in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Leadership of “Ensuro Moa Kuo”, an Akyem Oda community supporting group has taken the mantle to initiate the establishment of an orphanage home, calls for support from government and others.
In a bid to put smiles on the faces of the needy, “Ensuro Mmoa Kuo”, a benevolent group based in Akyem Oda, held its regular outreach programme dubbed “Engagement with the Needy” at Akyem Oda Nkwanta in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern region.
Speaking at the gathering, the Founder of “Ensuro Mmoa Kuo”, Mrs. Salomey Anarfi, stated that the group’s long-term goal is to build a befitting orphanage home in the area to shelter orphans in the Oda enclave as leaders of communities within the Oda areas call for the establishment of such project to rescue orphans.

According to her, a central home will make it easier to care for orphans in the Oda area and will also help donors locate and support them more easily, she has therefore called on government and others to assist them to embark on the establishment of an orphanage home in Akyem Oda.
The Chairman for the occasion, Obrempong Dr. Nana Sasu IV, who is the Awosohene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Council, used the opportunity to appeal to the Chief of Akyem Oda Nkwanta, Nana Gyaminah Akenten, for a parcel of land to build the proposed orphanage.
Dr. Nana Sasu IV also pledged to support the children by providing five bales of second-hand clothes, popularly known as “Foese”to help improve their appearance.
For his part, Nana Gyaminah Akenten commended Dr. Nana Sasu IV for his numerous developmental projects in the enclave and praised Ensuro Mmoa Kuo for their consistent support for vulnerable children.
