Accra Locks Down for National Cleaning Day on President Mahama’s Orders

A city-wide cleanup is underway in Accra today as directed by President John Dramani Mahama, part of the National General Cleaning Day following the devastating June 29 floods.

The two-day exercise, running July 10–11, targets choked drains, debris, and waste across seven flood-hit regions. In Accra, all shops remain closed for the cleanup except pharmacies and food vendors.

Government appointees, security personnel, and local assemblies are leading today’s effort, with the public set to join on Saturday.

Mallam, one of the areas severely flooded on June 29, is a key focus. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, led cleanup activities at Mallam Junction today and inspected affected homes in the area.
